Minecraft Just Got a Fourth Dimension (And It Took 15 Years)
You know the routine by now. Overworld, Nether, End. Three dimensions, since 2011, full stop.
Not anymore. At today's Minecraft Live, Mojang announced The Sift, the fourth dimension in the game's history and the first new one since the End dropped fifteen years ago. It's got a Meadow, a Carapace, and blue bunnies, shown right there in the reveal trailer, though the studio is holding back most other details until the full 2027 release.
Here's the thing though. You'll get there sooner than that. The Sift shows up first in Minecraft Dungeons II, out September 29, where it's the backdrop for a fight against an Illager High Council instead of the level-select screen the first Dungeons ran on. Jump mechanics, talismans, a Warden storyline pulled from the Deep Dark. That's a lot to add to a backlog that was already full before this week started.
There's also Ice Caves coming as a smaller drop (frozen zombies, glowing ice crystals, ice balls you can brew into freezing potions), a Minecraft World theme park landing in London in 2027, and Switch 2 support arriving October 27.
My theory is the Sift matters more than a normal biome update. Mojang doesn't touch the dimension count lightly. Fifteen years of restraint just ended for a reason.
What do you think a fourth dimension needs to do to earn its spot next to the End?
